Widow Acre Tiny Home Communities

To work with local municipalities to create safe gated communities of affordable, well built tiny homes, for widows and aged, combining flower gardens and homes positioned to afford great views, inside of a walking trail, with pond and benches, for health.

PUBLIC POLICY ADVOCACY

I advocate for improvement's at state & federal level to help caregivers provide best quality of life for aged parents, which improvements reach across political spectrum.

Family Caregiver Tax Credit

Give families $75,000 tax credit who actively care for aged family member. By 2030 (less than 5-years), near-50% of American families will be caring for an aging loved one (today is 25%).

Paid Family-based Parental Care

Pay full-time, trained family caregivers $50,000/year to care for aging parents. The cost of nursing homes today is $130,000/year. Hence, paying $50K saves $80K. And the care is cheaper, and better, as charity begins at home and the caregiver has a vested interest in providing the best level of care to their family member. $50K helps compensate for the cost of living, reduces unemployment levels in our nation, and avoids the tension in families of “who is going to take care of mom?” No new bureaucracy is required, nor many new nursing homes.

Care Facility Legal Reform

Encourage the construction of new types of short-term and long-term care facilities by capping legal malpractice claims to $250,000 per patient, and granting licensed facilities full release of legal claims for normal, even expected, types of age-related injuries, such as slip & fall, chokingon food. THE RISKIEST, most expensive business to create today, involving maximum amounts of investment in land, capital, labor, buildings, equipment, specialists, and operational costs, with lawyers advertising on every billboard “Sue Nursing Homes!”, is the nursing care industry. We must change incentives to reverse this.

CHURCH & ORG OUTREACH

Helping.Mom Network

To create a helping.mom network across country of men and women who donate time each month on work teams, to care for needy in their homes, with practical needs. The Top-10 in-home needs of elderly are: to fix leaky faucets, doors that don’t close, windows broken or cracked, repair locks, lightbulbs replaced, furniture to move, boxes to be thrown away, and trash to be taken out. FACT: 93% of widows cannot mow their yards, or shovel snow. 80% cannot scrape ice off their frozen car windows. 70% can’t walk upstairs in their homes.

Helping.Mom Bible Studies

The fastest-growing demographic in our society is the AGING. Yet, sadly, most churches have no resources or staff dedicated to targeting this group. I recently spent 3-months reaching out to 25 churches in my county, to work with them to create a practical helps ministry for the aged. Not one church responded. We need to create vibrant ministries of/by/for the aged, with Bible studies targeted specifically to them.

Adopt-a-Mom/Adopt-a-Dad

To encourage families to “adopt” widows in church, or community centers, to develop meaningful relationships, by inviting into home for meals, take kid’s soccer games, give ride to church, or grocery store, make sure they have a place to go on Thanksgiving and Christmas, remember their birthday. Sky is limit to bless the aged in our midst. Hugs are phenomenal tools to impact all generations.

INDUSTRY & DESIGN ENGAGEMENT

To create voluntary Age-Friendly Product Design Standards industry standards to age-proof products to make them safer, and improve functionality for the aged. We should never need to put on reading glasses to use anything! Designers and manufacturers of home-based products must make them age-friendLy. Lives depend on it. This includes eliminating all that is not necessary in products, enlarging font size on surfaces, and making labeling more clear.

SCARY FACT: It is impossible for my mom to open medicine packets prescribed to save her life. She cannot read the ingredients on cans used to cook meals. She cannot see the little numbers on her round wall thermostat. This winter she turned off her room space heater by accident, because its clicker is designed awfully. Who can figure out a television clicker, with 100 buttons in 6 shapes and 4 colors? She cannot read the small buttons on her stove, oven or microwave.
